If you’re like most budget-savvy Christians, you know how important it is to get out of debt, save for emergencies, and have a financial plan for the future. But doing all of that yourself can be a big task, especially if you have a family to raise and a jam-packed schedule.
When you need someone who shares your values as a Christian to guide you through your finances, who should you turn to?
Faith-based money guru Dave Ramsey has a solution—the SmartVestor Pro program through Ramsey Solutions. This is a great service that can help you get on the right track faster, whatever your goals are—to get out of debt, save for retirement, or even start a college fund for your kids.
In this blog, we’ll cover what a SmartVestor Pro is, who should use one, and how to get in contact with one in your area. Then, you’ll be on your way to planning for your future with an expert in your corner!
What is a SmartVestor Pro?
A SmartVestor Pro is a financial advisor who is trained in Dave Ramsey’s philosophies of saving, spending, and investing money—beyond their traditional financial advising education.
A SmartVestor Pro is thoroughly vetted by Ramsey Solutions before they are included on the list of trusted advisors. These advisors have extensive experience and no regulatory issues, along with other qualifications we’ll cover later.
The SmartVestor Pro service was designed to point Christian families to Christian advisors and Ramsey resources in their area.
Anyone can use Ramsey’s SmartVestor Pro tool to find an advisor near them, whether your family is only familiar with Dave’s 7 Baby Steps or has a high net worth and solid savings account.
What Services Do SmartVestor Pros Offer?
SmartVestor Pros offer similar services as other financial advisors, with the added benefit of being endorsed by Ramsey Solutions. A few services most pros offer include:
- Retirement Planning
- Wealth Management
- College Savings Plans
- Estate Planning
What Qualifications Do Pros Have?
SmartVestor Pros don’t work directly for Ramsey Solutions. Instead, they work for investment advisors or broker-dealer firms that are not affiliated with Ramsey. However, they are thoroughly evaluated by the Ramsey team. Some specific qualifications for SmartVestor Pros include:
- At least two years of experience as a registered investing professional.
- A thorough understanding of Dave Ramsey’s 7 Baby Steps.
- They agree to Ramsey Solutions’ Code of Conduct.
- They participate in ongoing coaching with the Ramsey team to maintain high standards of customer service.
How Are SmartVestor Pros Different From Other Financial Advisors?
When you work with a SmartVestor Pro, you know you are working with someone whose values align with getting out of debt and saving for the future. They are also required to be veteran advisors who share Ramsey values.
As SmartVestor Pro himself, Mark Riefer takes this a step further. While many Ramsey-endorsed financial advisors are Christians, they don’t always ascribe to values-based investing. At Clear Money Path, the investments and advice align not only with Ramsey values but also with biblical ones—without any extra charge to our clients.
Why Should You Work with a SmartVestor Pro?
There are numerous reasons you should work with a SmartVestor Pro! We’ve covered some of them already, including their commitment to Ramsey values and getting you on track for a better financial future. But here are a few more reasons why working with a SmartVestor Pro is a smart choice.
Working with a SmartVestor Pro will save you time. When you try to DIY your way to retirement or your financial future, you often end up having to retrace your steps—or worse, you might not achieve as good of a return without expert advice. A pro can provide professional advice all while keeping you in charge.
Every SmartVestor Pro is encouraged to have the heart of a teacher with their clients. Instead of simply telling them what to do, a pro will walk through what financial terms mean so their client has a better understanding of where their money is going. They’ll go the extra mile to make sure you understand all of your options, no matter the complexity of your situation.
Thinking Big Picture
Even if you approach your SmartVestor Pro with a specific request, like starting a college fund, your pro will help you see the bigger picture along with it. Even Dave Ramsey’s baby steps focus on the big picture of getting out of debt, so you can focus on your daily goals. All the while, your pro understands where your choices will lead you and can be a voice of reason in the midst of market volatility or other uncertainty.
How to Connect with Your Local SmartVestor Pro
Getting connected to a SmartVestor Pro in your area is easy and free to do on the Ramsey website. Simply fill out the form on the page and make sure to check the box that says “Yes, I would like my information sent to my local SmartVestor Pros.” Once you submit, you’ll be directed to a page of up to five SmartVestor Pros in your area. If you agreed to share your information, you can anticipate an email or phone call from one or all of these pros.
Once you’re connected with one of the pros in your area, you’re invited to meet with them for an interview. Ramsey even provides a few sample questions to ask your pro to find out if you’re a good fit for each other.
While the SmartVestor Pro tool is free to use, the way you will be charged for services will depend on which pro you select. SmartVestor Pros typically operate based on commission, fees, or a combination of the two.
